Few know Temperance Hill better than its vineyard manager, Dai Crisp. For Lumos, his own label, he draws from a range of blocks with varied elevations, aspects and soil depths. Upper Bench is the product of especially lean soils, with vine roots striking basalt quickly. The wine is briary and lean, with an austere savor of dried herbs and tar grounding the fine weight of strawberry fruit.

Dai Crisp grows all of the grapes used in our wines in USDA/Oregon Certified Organic vineyards. He has been farming vineyards this way for 25 years. This philosophy of using a natural approach with minimal intervention also predominantly influences our winemaker, Julia Cattrall.
